CROTTA COISTE NA NOG NEWS

Crotta Hurlers took part in the U12 Blitz in Abbeydorney on Saturday 7th July. They played three matches winning one losing one and drawing the other. Missing a number of the first team and at one stage having only 7 Players, this was a great achievement and all players deserve great credit. They drew with Abbeydorney in the first match having trailed by four points at half time. Sean Murnane getting an all important goal and point in the second half. The eventual winners Causeway were up next and again having trailed by two points at halftime, the lads showed great commitment to turn things around. Sean Keane who was playing his first match for Crotta scored a cracking goal to level matters. Causeway however scored late on to win by a point. Ballyheigue were our opponents in the final match. Ballyheigue were under strength on the day and Crotta had a comfortable win. A lot of positives from the day. It was great to see Sean Keane eventually make his debut and the performance of Jack Kevin McKenna in goals in the last match. Some of the younger players played exceptionally well. Daniel O’Rourke has been the most improved player at this grade and played very well in each match. All players played their part though and at present this Group of players top U12 County League Division 1 with one game left to play. Last Saturdays panel of Players were as follows: Cillian Trant, Aodhan McKenna, Sean Murnane, Jack Kevin McKenna, Tadhg McKenna, Darragh Murnane, Sean Keane, Darragh O’Donoghue, Daniel O’Rourke, Ryan McElligott, Declan O’Donoghue and Tomas Dillon. Thanks to the Abbeydorney GAA Club for hosting the event and the Causeway GAA Club for providing food and refreshments.
U15s Crotta U15’s started their North Kerry Championship campaign with a two point victory over Lixnaw. Two Jordan Conway goals in the second half were crucial plus the accuracy of Raymond Nolan from placed balls. Their next match is at home to Causeway this Thursday July 12th in Dromakee at 6.30pm.
CBS Awards Night Congratulations to David O’Donoghue, Garrynagore who won the Student of the Year Award for English in The Tralee CBS End of Year Awards Night. David has just sat his Leaving Certificate and is the son of former Crotta Hurler Tom and Lorraine O’Donoghue.
Croke Park One Crotta Hurler is guaranteed to play in Croke Park this Summer as Darragh O’Donoghue has been selected to take part in the Cumann na mBunscoil game to be played in Croke Park on ALL Ireland Hurling Semi Final Day. The game will take place during half time in the Senior match between the Munster Hurling Champions and a team who comes through the qualifiers. Two players are selected from each County to represent their school. Darragh is one of the boys selected from Kerry and will represent Kilflynn NS, the other is his cousin Gary Carey, Causeway who will represent Ballincrossig School. It is normally a Sixth Class student that is selected and is some achievement as Darragh is only in Fifth Class in Kilflynn. He was very instrumental in Kilflynn’s Mini Sevens Cumann na mBunscoil victory and played outstanding in the tournament.

NORTH KERRY U-12 FOOTBALL LEAGUE
St Senans U12’s claimed maximum points in their opening fixture of the North Kerry League with both A and B teams recording comfortable wins over Brosna.

Both games were halted after the throw in due to torrential rain but thankfully resumed after 10 minutes.
The A team used this break to set themselves up for the remainder of the match which was played in terrible conditions but at a frantic pace. Some of the football on show made a mockery of the weather with great passages of play resulting in some fine scores. Senans went behind after an early Brosna goal but once getting level after a goal of their own never looked back. They ran out winners by 12 pts on a scoreline of 6-9 to 3-6 in a very controlled and assured performance.
The B team also had a comfortable and deserved win even taking into account that Brosna were missing a couple of players on the night. Every player gave their all and put in massive effort in the rain to triumph on a scoreline of 5-12 to 1-6
Next up for both teams is Listowel away. Needless to say the Panel needs to be at its best to have any chance of taking points from this fixture. Let’s get the support out for this match in what surely will be a huge game for both teams!
