CROTTA U12 HURLERS CROWNED COUNTY DIV 1 CHAMPIONS
Congratulations and well done to our U12 Team who won the County League Division 1 Title for the first time ever, on Tuesday 10th July. Crotta had previously fallen at the final hurdle three times in the last number of years so it was great to eventually have success in this competition.
Last Tuesday evenings match was the final game in the League. Crotta topped the table going into the match and needed a win to win the Competition outright. A gallant Dr Crokes side were their opponents in the Sportsfield Dromakee, Kilflynn and Crokes got off to the perfect start with a goal and a point inside ten mins. Crokes were applying all the pressure but James Sheehan was having a great game at wing back and cleared ball after ball. Darragh O’Donoghue thundered into the game at midfield for Crotta and fired over three points into the wind. Ryan McElligott then tied the scores just before half time with a great point following a nice passage of play which started with a long clearance from Aodhan McKenna.
Crotta had the breeze at their backs in the second half and set about their task from the restart. The lively Sean Murnane fired over a point and shortly after scored a goal to put Crotta four points to the good. Darragh O’Donoghue pointed a 65 and Darragh Murnane scored Crotta’s second goal to leave the score Crotta 2-06 Crokes 1-01. Any thoughts Crotta had of an easy victory were dispelled with a Crokes goal following an error by the Crotta defence. After this Crokes gained the upper hand and only some stout defending by Declan O’Donoghue, Aodhan McKenna, James Sheehan and Goal keeper Cillian Trant kept them at bay. That goal was Crokes last score as Eamonn Rohan came more and more into the match now and he scored a goal and a point to make the game safe. Another point from play, and a 65 from Darragh O’Donoghue concluded the scoring.
Final Score Crotta 3-09 Dr Crokes 2-01.
Panel: Cillian Trant, Declan O’Donoghue, Aodhan McKenna, James Sheehan, Eamonn Rohan (1-01), Darragh O’Donoghue (0-06), Daniel O’Rourke, Sean Murnane (1-01), Ryan McElligott (0-01), Darragh Murnane(1-00), Tomas Dillon, Sean Keane, Michael Kennedy, Timmy Dillon, Aodhn Behan, Tadhg McKenna, Denis Nolan, Eoin Relihan, Pairic Shanahan, Daniel Hunt, Jack Kevin McKenna, David O’Connell, Denis Quille and Eoin Galvin.
Crotta played five matches in Division 1. They started with a home match against Causeway winning 3-03 to 1-06 in a tight match. Darragh Murnane Aodhan Behan and Ryan McElligott getting the goals. Ballyduff were next and this was the Sean Murnane show as he scored five goals in a 6-03 to 1-05 victory. Winners of phase 1, Abbeydorney were next. Played in Dromakee this was the match of the League. Crotta trailed by eight points at half time but all players contributed to a fantastic win on a scoreline of Crotta 3-11 Abbeydorney 2-09. Ryan Murphy scored 2-02 and Tomas Dillon scored the other goal. Some long range points by Darragh O’Donoghue and a man of the match performance by James Sheehan plus a couple of fantastic first half saves by Cillian Trant all paved the way to a Crotta victory. Crotta ‘s defence also played their part and Daniel O’Rourke’s work rate unsettled a fine Abbeydorney team. A difficult trip to Ballyheighue was game four in the League. Leading by six points at half time following first half goals by Darragh Murnane and Ryan McElligott, Ballyheighue prove to be tough opponents. The home side had the advantage of a strong wind in the second half. Even though Crotta got two second half goals through Daniel O’Rourke and Sean Murnane, we only lead by a point with five mins remaining. Man of the match Darragh O’Donoghue scored four points in this time to leave the final score Crotta 4-06 Ballyheighue 3-05.

NORTH KERRY U-12 FOOTBALL LEAGUE
There were mixed fortunes for the A and B teams against Listowel on Sunday 15th July.
The A team suffered a heavy defeat in a disappointing performance on the night. The margin was unfair on the lads who have put in a huge effort this year and played some great football. The loss of some Key players before the game did not help however on the night they came up against a very good Listowel team who were faster, stronger and first to the ball throughout. The damage was done too early in the match which left a huge mountain to climb in rescuing a result. Great credit must go to the team in the second half for battling and improving on their first half showing. Damien Larkin, Ryan Murphy, Daniel O’Rourke and Pairic Shanahan in Particular played their hearts out in the second half. On the evening it was a case that one team was at their best and the other team looked a very tired outfit. With Senans already having secured the County football League, and most of the A panel also doing the Double with the Hurling this game came probably a little too late in the year for the type of performance required to win.
The B’s put up a wonderful performance winning out in a tight game and ensuring that at least one of our teams came away with a win on the night. They were also missing players but managed to ride out the storm particularly in a tense first half. In a tight game throughout all players played their hearts out and stuck to the task in hand playing some great football. In an end to end match played at a fast pace Senans remained composed to deliver the win and ensure in the process that their 100% record remains intact. This is a remarkable record this season and great credit must go to each and every player who has shown the effort and commitment throughout the year. Thanks to all parents for their support on the evening. Next up is the Munster Blitz in Fitzgerald stadium on Tue before our next North Kerry League match against Ballyduff on Wednesday.
