CUMMANN NA MBUNSCOIL FOOTBALL:
Kilflynn National School have qualified for the St Brendans Board Area Football Final for a third year in a row following a nine point victory over Glenderry National School (Ballyheigue) on Wednesday 17th October in Ballyheigue. Kilflynn’s campaign started off with a defeat by Abbeydorney in their first match three weeks ago. Last week they played Fenit NS and had a comfortable win. Finishing second in the Group set up a semi final date with Glenderry last Wednesday. Conditions for the game were far from ideal. Underfoot conditions were not good and the presence of a swirling wind made kicking difficult. Glenderry started the brighter but a resolute Kilflynn defence matched everything that was thrown at them. Darragh Murnane opened the scoring with a fine point from play. This was soon followed by a point from top scorer on the day Daniel O’Rourke. Darragh O’Donoghue then won possession at midfield and his long delivery was gathered by Declan O’Donoghue, and his quick fisted pass found Sean Murnane who scored a great goal. Another fine move started again at midfield, where the ever lively James Sheehan ran at the Glenderry defence before releasing Daniel O’Rourke who finished clinically for Kilflynn’s second goal. Glenderry then hit a purple patch and scored three points on the trot. Only some brave Goalkeeping from Aodhan McKenna and great defensive work by Eamonn Rohan and Daniel Quirke stopped Glenderry from scoring the goal they badly needed. Backed by the wind Kilflynn steadily took control again and scored a goal(James Sheehan) and a point from play by Sean Murnane. Half time Kilflynn NS 3-03 Glenderry NS 0-04. Glenderry had a lot of possession at the start of the second half but failed to convert that into scores. Darragh O’Donoghue and Sinead Coleman took over at midfield midway through the second half and this enabled Kilflynn to score four second half points.Darragh O’Donoghue and Daniel O’Rourke scored a brace of points each to put Kilflynn twelve in front but a consolation goal from a free by Glenderry left the Full time result Kilflynn NS 3-07 Glenderry NS 1-04. All players played their part in difficult conditions. We wish Aodhan McKenna a speedy recovery from an injury he picked up in the first half. Panel as follows: Aodhan McKenna, Eamonn Rohan, DanielQuirke, Ryan McElligott, James Sheehan (1-00),Darragh O’Donoghue (0-02), Sinead Coleman, Darragh Murnane (0-01),Sean Murnane (1-01),Daniel O’Rourke(1-03) Declan O’Donoghue, Jack Kevin McKenna, Eoin Relihan, Denis Nolan, Tadhg McKenna, Cillian Baker and Parker Sutton McLemore.
